Southern Ontario Ice Storm
Severe weather in Southern Ontario created havoc over the weekend. Here are some excerpts from local media:
- Toronto – 40,000 people were without power and one busy airport had to shut down on Sunday
- St. Thomas – areas near Lake Erie were hit with the most precipitation, the region around St. Thomas, had the most power outages
- Niagara Region – more than 15,000 customers were without power in St. Catharines Saturday morning
- London – Nearly 15,000 north of London, from Grand Bend to St. Marys without power. In London, hydro crews worked Sunday afternoon to restore power in south London.
Recent power outages are a good time to talk with clients about proper surge protection. Equipment can be damaged both when the power goes out and after the power is restored. Surges and Transient Voltage created by power outages can compromise sophisticated electrical equipment.
