A lot of people don’t pay that much attention to warranties on surge protection devices. Some say 10 years, others 15 years, and some advertise a lifetime warranty. But what do these warranties actually cover? Here are some warranties from various manufacturers. The company names have been removed.
“XXX surge protection devices (SPDs) are backed with a solid Lifetime Warranty on XXX models against manufacturer defects. XXX are for down line sub-panels and come with a standard 10-year warranty.”
“XXX warrants that its family of Surge Protective Devices (SPDs) including its individual modules and assembled systems shall be free from defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service for a period of 10 years from date of original purchase.”
“XXX warrants XXX Series for a period of 10 years from the date of delivery to the purchaser to be free from defects in both workmanship and materials.”
“TEN YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY AGAINST DEFECTS IN MATERIAL AND WORKMANSHIP.”
“XXX warrants these products for a period of 15 years from the date of delivery to the purchaser, 20 years if the product is properly registered with XXX, to be free from defects in both workmanship and materials.”
So what exactly do these warranties cover? Not a lot. As you will see from the above statements, all these manufacturers cover defects in material and workmanship only. What does this mean? When you install one of these devices and it is energized and operating for a short period of time, the warranty is over. That is, in the event the unit fails on a surge or transient, there is no replacement warranty regardless of whether it is 5, 10, 25 years, or lifetime. Most people look at price instead of performance and warranty.
At Innosys Power our warranty is different. In the event one of our units sacrifices itself protecting the client’s equipment, we replace the SPD at no charge, for a period of up to 30 years. This provides the client with a 30-year lifecycle of savings on our ST and LP models and 25 years on our TT2 models. The investment in long-term protection is far better and provides a good return on investment for you or your client.
“During the applicable warranty period, any Innosys Power Total Protection Solutions™ surge protective device which fails due to defect in materials, workmanship, or any electrical anomaly, including lightning, shall be repaired or replaced at the manufacturer’s discretion without charge. ServiceTrack & Low Profile units are covered for 30 Years from original date of purchase. TransTrack 2 units are covered for 25 Years from original date of purchase.”
Once you decide to invest in surge protection, ask for the performance information, warranty, and any other information the manufacturer can provide you. Compare this with Innosys Power and you will find our products outperform the majority of products on the market.
